A Sustainable, Connected and Vibrant Future for Sydney Olympic Park

The Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2050 has been approved by the NSW Government, setting a bold plan for the future of one of Sydney’s most iconic suburbs.

The Master Plan outlines how Sydney Olympic Park will evolve into a thriving, sustainable, mixed-use community, a place for everyday life, building on its status as a premier world class event destination.

More homes close to the things that matter

By planning affordable housing alongside transport and open space, the Master Plan ensures key workers and families can continue to live near where they work — strengthening the liveability of Sydney Olympic Park. The Master Plan delivers capacity for:

  • 15,000 homes, including affordable housing that will always stay affordable, with 15-20% targeted on government owned land that is not currently subject to a long-term lease and 5% included in all other residential developments
  • A walkable, people first community supported by Sydney Metro West and upgraded pedestrian and cycling links
  • Homes within easy reach of schools, parks, open space, worldclass sport and entertainment venues and everyday services.

Clear, modern environmental guidelines that support sustainability

The Master Plan elevates the environmental framework established for the ‘Green Games’ — maintaining the precinct’s strong sustainability values while providing clear guidelines that support investment and high-quality development.

This includes:

  • Ongoing protection of 430 hectares of wetlands, parklands and public open space
  • Practical, contemporary sustainability measures — such as improved tree canopy, water sensitive design and biodiversity corridors
  • Conservation activities that protect local ecosystems — including long‑term habitat protection and restoration measures that strengthen the Park’s environmental resilience
  • Connection with Country principles to support planting and placemaking.

Jobs, investment and social infrastructure

Development will be staged over 25 years and delivered alongside major infrastructure projects, including the state and federally funded upgrade to the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout.

The Master Plan provides capacity for up to 26,000 jobs and encourages investment in innovation, sport, culture and commercial activity.

It also sets aside land for important social infrastructure including:

  • 10 new playgrounds
  • 9 new public open spaces
  • 4 new sports fields
  • schools and community facilities.
